Two Georgia lawsuits challenging the election results have been withdrawn by President Donald Trump’s legal team.
Filed in the Superior Court of Fulton County and in the U.S. District Court Northern District of Georgia — in which both President Trump is the plaintiff — Trump asked the courts to review claims that there had been fraudulent votes counted in the 2020 presidential election.
President Trump’s lawyers, in a news statement, stated that they asked the courts to dismiss the two cases due to “an out-of-court settlement agreement.”
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger’s lawyer said while they do not object to the voluntary dismissal, they do not agree that there was a settlement made between the parties.
The District Court’s response to the notice of voluntary dismissal was terse:
“Defendants do not object to the voluntary dismissal. Defendants do object to the false grounds articulated in the Notice. Plaintiff Donald J. Trump voluntarily dismissed this litigation contending the dismissal is a result of settlement between the Parties. It is not. There is no settlement.”
The notices to withdraw the lawsuits were sent on the day Congress certified President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.
