Former Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.) is considering running for election for the U.S. Senate in 2022. Perdue has already filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission.
"The filing designates Perdue for Senate as the principal campaign committee and authorizes several other committees to raise and expend funds on his behalf. The designated committees include the Texas-based Cruz Senate Victory and The Founders Committee, alongside Perdue Victory Inc. and Team Perdue," The Epoch Times reports.
Speaking to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Perdue's aides highlighted that nothing has been finalized yet, but Perdue is considering it. By March 1 he will make his final decision and any campaign would be announced in April, according to the Journal, The Epoch Times reports.
Perdue lost his election bid in the dual runoffs in early January against Sen. Jon Ossoff (D). If he is to contest, he would face Sen. Raphael Warnock (D), who will seek re-election in 2022 as he is currently finishing the term of former Sen. Johnny Isakson (R) who had resigned over health issues. Warnock defeated former Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R) in the same election.
Ossoff and Warnock's victories gave Democrats a small margin of majority of 50-50 in the Senate, with Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris being the tiebreaker.
An ally of former President Trump, Perdue served in the Senate from 2015 to 2021.
