CARTERSVILLE-BARTOW COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: Euharlee Police Department Accepting Applications for 2021 Citizen's Police Academy

Police 04

Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on June 11.

The Euharlee Police Department will host our 2021 Citizen’s Police Academy beginning August 19th, and the last class will be October 21st. This course is absolutely FREE! The academy will run for 10 weeks, and we will meet every Thursday evening, between 6:30 PM and 9:00 PM.

View the Euharlee Police Department's Citizen's Police Academy 2021 Flyer.

The Citizen’s Police Academy is for citizens at least 18 years of age (before or during the session), with no Felony convictions. A Criminal Background Check is required and performed on every applicant by a police department staff member. The only requirement is that the student attend a minimum of 7 of the 10 classes in order to receive a certificate of completion. There are two additional classes that will meet on a different day of the week and both are “voluntary only”, and are not included as part of the 10-week academy.

We encourage people to sign up if you are interested in the Law Enforcement profession, or if you have any questions about what police officers learn during the police academy. If you have any negative connotations about Law Enforcement or the Euharlee Police Department, we strongly encourage you to join us and give us a chance to change your mind or give you a different perspective. The curriculum covers a wide variety of topics, some include: Traffic Stops/ Enforcement, Impaired Driving, Criminal Investigations, Crimes Against Children, a tour of the Bartow County 911 Center and Bartow County Sheriff’s Office/ Jail, and Use of Force/ Firearms Training, and we include two ride-a-long’s during a day or night shift on a date that they choose.

A constant topic in the media, throughout the world, has been Police Use of Force tactics and policies, so we provide an in-depth class on Georgia Laws, Federal Laws, and Euharlee Police Department Policy regarding Use of Deadly and Non-deadly force. Students that participate in that class, are eligible to attend a firearms training session on an outdoor range with instruction from Certified Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors. It has been my experience that this has been the most eye-opening and rewarding class for citizens not familiar with police practices.

We hope that those who attend will learn something they didn’t already know about the Law Enforcement profession, but most importantly we hope they gain respect and full trust in the police officers and employees who service this community. That each citizen sees the person behind the badge, the person that also serves a family at home, but wears a Euharlee Police Department badge with honor and stands in the face of danger to protect the Citizens of Euharlee.

Applications are available for pick-up at the Euharlee Police Department during normal business hours, and can be emailed by request, by contacting Kisha Rowland at krowland@euharlee.com.
