The state’s first lady has announced her support for officials of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit (CECCU) as the organization tracks down information that could incarcerate child predators.
The unit has arrested several people suspected of child exploitation.
First Lady Marty Kemp tweeted her appreciation for the organization as it works on tracking criminals who partake in taking advantage of children.
“The GBI’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit is tracking down criminals all across the state and bringing them to justice,” she said. “The hard work of the CEACC is keeping Georgia’s children safe!”
According to the GBI, the CEACC is the ICAC Task Force program meant to assist state and local law enforcement agencies in developing a response to cyber enticement, child pornography and the commercial sexual exploitation of children.
Recently two men were arrested in Franklin County for suspected sexual exploitation of children, the website AllOnGeorgia reported. The individuals were arrested by the CEACC unit.
Another man was arrested on July 21 for possession of child pornography in Upson County after the GBI CEACC received information that led to an investigation, according to Langrange News.
Debbie Garner, the special agent in charge of the child exploitation and computer crimes unit with the GBI, told FOX5 that the state has received over 11,600 cyber tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
“The year before that we received about 7,100 and the year before that we received about 5,200," she said.
