Georgia sixth-year senior Jenna Staiti is in the running for an accolade that is given to the top center in women's college basketball.
The university announced in an Oct. 29 press release that Staiti is among the 20 names on the 2022 Lisa Leslie Award Watch List.
"Staiti is one of only eight players in Georgia history to score over 1,000 career points, record over 500 rebounds and block over 150 shots," the university said in the release.
The release said that there are three rounds to the award process in which fans can vote for a nominee.
The list will narrow down to 10 players in January, with the final cut to five the next month.
Once the final five are culled, the release said, the finalists will meet with Leslie, a former Olympic gold medalist and one of the WNBA’s greatest players, and the Hall of Fame's selection committee in March.
Staiti, who hails from Cumming, and teammate Que Morrison are UGA’s representatives on the coaches' 2021 Preseason All-Southeastern Conference Second Team, the Peach Tree Times reported.
Both graduate students, the pair were huge contributors to a UGA team that last season compiled a 21-7 overall record and bowed in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, the publication reported.
They are expected to provide leadership on a squad projected to finish fourth in the SEC.
