The Atlanta Falcons earlier this month released wide receiver Cameron Batson from their practice squad following his arrest resulting in charges of aggravated assault, battery, removal of a weapon from a public official and driving-fleeting to elude a police officer.

A spokesperson the Falcons told ESPN the team is taking "this matter seriously," after Batson was found at the center of an alleged altercation with police and fleeing the scene of the incident. The Falcons said they are working to get more information from law enforcement. 

"The Atlanta Falcons have released wide receiver Cameron Batson from the practice squad. With the release of Batson, the Falcons currently have 15 players on the practice squad," the Falcons told FOX 5 Atlanta in a statement.

During his initial court appearance, a Fulton County judge set Batson's bond at $95,000. The judge established that Baston still would be allowed to travel with the team before Falcons officials announced they had severed all ties with him.

According to the report, Atlanta police said they took Batson into custody for driving under the influence and leading them on a chase. Police said the incident began with an officer alleging he saw Batson speeding and failing to stay in his lane in a pickup truck, prompting him to conduct a traffic stop on Interstate Highway 75 North at the Northside Drive exit.

During the stop, that officer said he determined Batson was intoxicated and tried to arrest him. This, police said, sparked an altercation after the suspect violently resisted, at one point attempting to take the police officer's gun as the mayhem unfolded.
