Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr has hailed the suspension of the climate mandate as a significant victory for Georgia's business sector and overall economy. He declared the climate mandate to be unlawful.

"Stopping this unlawful climate mandate is a major win for Georgia's business community & our state's economy," said Carr, Customer Service Representative, according to X. "President Biden can't use the SEC to force compliance with his anti-energy agenda, & we'll keep fighting until this rule is permanently blocked."

In light of legal challenges, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has temporarily halted its requirement for private firms to disclose carbon emissions data. This rule, which was finalized in March, was swiftly met with lawsuits from 25 Republican attorneys general, along with energy companies, business groups, and various energy producer alliances, as reported by Fox News.

The SEC is an independent federal agency established in 1934 that operates under a five-member commission appointed by the president. The SEC's wide-ranging responsibilities include supervising trading activities, reviewing disclosures of exchange-listed companies, and regulating various registered entities and securities exchanges. The Chair manages the agency's executive and administrative functions, overseeing approximately 4,500 staff members across six divisions and 25 offices, according to information provided on the SEC's About webpage.

Chris Carr was appointed as Georgia's attorney general by then-Governor Nathan Deal in 2016 and was re-elected in November 2022. Since assuming office, Carr has concentrated on addressing issues such as human trafficking, gang activity, and opioid misuse. This includes establishing the state's first Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit and Gang Prosecution Unit. Carr also served as commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development previously. During his tenure there, Georgia was recognized as the top state for business due to substantial investment and job creation according to information from the Office of the Attorney General.
