Atlanta, GA - Governor Brian P. Kemp has revealed the selection of three new recipients for grants under the Rural Workforce Housing Initiative, totaling over $6.3 million in infrastructure development. These grants will support the creation of more than 123 housing units across three different communities.

"We have already seen a great response to the Rural Workforce Housing program, and this latest round of grants will further strengthen communities experiencing incredible economic growth," Governor Brian Kemp stated. Kemp highlighted the importance of the program in enabling people to live where they work, thanking the General Assembly for their support in making Georgia a prime location for living, working, and raising families.

The grant recipients were required to meet the grant and OneGeorgia Authority stipulations, showcasing robust collaboration between impacted communities and real estate developers.

Christopher Nunn, the Commissioner of the Department of Community Affairs, noted the increasing demand for workforce housing across the state. "With economic growth occurring in every part of the state, demand for workforce housing continues to grow," Nunn remarked, highlighting the significance of the initiative.

The awards include a $2,210,000 grant for the City of Louisville to facilitate the construction of water, sewer, street, and drainage improvements for the Chestnut Subdivision, leading to the creation of 46 new homes and townhomes. The City of Lyons will receive $1,633,672 for infrastructure improvements in the Parker Place Subdivision, while the City of Savannah will be granted $2,500,000 for sewer infrastructure enhancements in the Legacy Development.

These grants mark a significant step in addressing the critical need for workforce housing in rural communities, as part of the ongoing efforts to boost economic development and provide affordable housing options for workers across Georgia.
