ATLANTA (May 6, 2024) – Sen. Sonya Halpern (D–Atlanta), Vice Chair of the Senate Democratic Caucus, has been named a ‘2024 Legislator of the Year’ by JAMES Magazine. The award is featured in their March-April edition, dubbed “The Most Influential Issue.”

Reflecting on this accolade, Sen. Halpern expressed her gratitude, stating, "I am deeply grateful for the distinction of being named one of the top three State Lawmakers of 2024 in Georgia by JAMES Magazine. Holding several key Senate leadership roles, I have dedicated myself to advancing crucial issues such as healthcare accessibility, funding for public education, criminal justice reform and sustainable economic growth. This award is a personal honor and I remain steadfast in my commitment to represent the interests of the 39th Senate District and all Georgians with integrity and dedication."

According to JAMES Magazine, the ‘Legislator of the Year Award’ recognizes three state legislators annually for their outstanding leadership and impressive work on a wide array of policy issues. Sen. Halpern and additional awardees will be celebrated at a reception held by the publication on Thursday, May 9.

She represents the 39th Senate District which includes neighborhoods across the five cities of Atlanta, College Park, City of South Fulton, East Point and Union City, all in Fulton County.
