State Representative Johnny Chastain (R-Blue Ridge) has announced that Gilmer Arts in Ellijay, Georgia, has been awarded a one-time grant of $100,000. The funds have been allocated under House Bill 915, the Amended Fiscal Year 2024 budget. These Special Project funds are administered through the Georgia Council for the Arts, a division of the Georgia Department of Economic Development. This department is tasked with empowering the arts industry in Georgia and artists throughout the state to cultivate communities that are healthy, vibrant and rich in civic participation, cultural experiences and economic prosperity.

"I am pleased to unveil this significant milestone for Gilmer Arts, a cornerstone organization in House District 7," said Rep. Chastain. "This grant is poised to enhance our region’s cultural fabric by providing invaluable opportunities for artistic expression and community engagement. I applaud Gilmer Arts for their steadfast commitment to nurturing creativity and fostering a vibrant arts scene that enriches the lives of our residents."

Gilmer Arts was initially established as the Gilmer Arts Council (GAC) in 1979 as a volunteer-managed organization housed in a small rented space. Over time, it evolved significantly, focusing on touring exhibits, arts education and instructional programs.

"We commend the Georgia General Assembly for providing these one-time appropriations to support arts in rural communities," said Georgia Council for the Arts Executive Director Tina Lilly. "Arts events enhance downtowns, support small businesses, and provide jobs while creating excitement and unity."
