ATLANTA – State Representative David Huddleston (R-Roopville) was chosen by Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve as a member of the House Study Committee on Safety and Consumer Protection in the Tree Care Industry.

“I am honored to be selected by Speaker Burns to serve as a member of this much-needed study committee,” said Rep. Huddleston. “Proper regulations and requirements for Georgia’s tree trimmers are falling short of the necessary standards, putting them at significant risk of injury and even death. Our tree care professionals play a vital role in maintaining the health and safety of our environment and communities. However, without proper oversight and rigorous safety protocols, their invaluable work comes at an unacceptable cost. It is imperative that we prioritize their safety by ensuring robust and comprehensive guidelines are in place. By doing so, we not only protect the lives of these dedicated workers but also enhance the quality and sustainability of tree care services throughout our state. I look forward to culminating our findings into proposed legislation in January.”

The House Study Committee on Safety and Consumer Protection in the Tree Care Industry was established pursuant to House Resolution 473, which was adopted during the 2024 legislative session. The committee will examine and propose potential solutions to stop any possible injury or even death within the tree care industry.

Speaker Burns also appointed the following study committee members: State Representatives Victor Anderson (R-Cornelia), Marvin Lim (D-Norcross), Jordan Ridley (R-Woodstock), and Bill Yearta (R-Sylvester).
