The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced the temporary closure of a section of DeKalb Medical Parkway at Hillandale Drive in Stonecrest for construction purposes. This partial closure, slated to begin April 25 at 9 p.m. and concluding on April 28 at 5 a.m., aims to facilitate the realignment of Fairington Road and includes the construction of a new bridge over I-20.
During this period, the detour will guide motorists via Hillandale Drive, Panola Road, and Snapfinger Woods Drive, while ensuring access to the northern entrance of Emory-Hillandale Hospital. The closure will enable crews to adjust the intersection of Hillandale Drive and DeKalb Medical Parkway to the new bridge height. After the closure, further work will continue to connect the roads to the new structure.
Motorists are instructed to use caution around the detour and consult the 511GA app for planning purposes. Updated detour information will be posted on signage, as navigation applications might not have current details.
This construction is part of the larger I-285/I-20 East Interchange Project, which is focused on enhancing traffic safety and efficiency in a busy travel corridor through the reconstruction of several ramps and the addition of lanes along both I-20 and I-285 near the interchange.
The schedule for construction may change due to weather or other unforeseen factors. Georgia DOT will provide regular updates through their GA 511 service, the project website, and social media channels.
