State Representative J Collins (R-Villa Rica), chairman of the House Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee, was recently selected by Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve on the House Study Committee on Disaster Mitigation and Resilience.
“As legislators, our duty is the protection and safety of our citizens, and I am thankful to Speaker Burns for allowing me the opportunity to execute a comprehensive review of our responses and solutions to natural and manmade disasters,” said Chairman Collins. “Natural disasters not only harm the livelihood and safety of those they affect but also pose threats to our infrastructure, economy, and businesses. It’s imperative that we investigate our current disaster mitigation policies and make further recommendations in order to prevent harm to Georgians.”
Created by House Resolution 1432, the House Study Committee on Disaster Mitigation and Resilience will examine ways to develop a comprehensive resilience plan to accommodate and mitigate current and future disaster events with the goal of facilitating strong economic development, promoting tourism, and assisting communities and businesses struggling with repeated disaster impacts.
Speaker Burns also appointed the following legislative members to this study committee: State Representatives Clint Crowe (R-Jackson), Lynn Smith (R-Newnan), and Edna Jackson (D-Savannah).
