State Representative John Corbett (R-Lake Park), chairman of the House Committee on Motor Vehicles, has been appointed by Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve on the House Study Committee on Navigable Streams and Related Matters.

“I am honored to have been appointed to help investigate the complexities of access and use of navigable streams for both private property owners and the public,” said Rep. Corbett. “Our goal will be to research the current policies regarding navigable streams and make recommendations to ensure that our laws are fair to both property owners and those who wish to explore these precious natural resources. I am eager to hear from constituents and professionals alike in determining solutions to identifying navigable streams and their usage.”

The House Study Committee on Navigable Streams and Related Matters was established following the adoption of House Resolution 1554 during the 2024 legislative session. This study committee will examine aspects of navigable streams in this state, including issues surrounding their ownership, private and public rights of use, and other related matters. It may make recommendations for proposed legislation ahead of the 2025 legislative session.

Speaker Burns also appointed State Representatives Lynn Smith (R-Newnan), Stan Gunter (R-Blairsville), Al Williams (D-Midway), Johnny Chastain (R-Blue Ridge), James Burchett (R-Waycross), along with Mr. Jud Turner as a non-legislative member.
