A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Dooly County Election Department regarding their ballot counting methods on October 29, 2024. The request was made by Peach Tree Times, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In the request, we asked for a list of methods they are using to count votes. If the votes are manually counted, we requested an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.
As a media organization, Peach Tree Times is involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We await the response from the Dooly County Election Department and will continue our commitment towards ensuring transparency in local government affairs.
