Governor Brian P. Kemp announced that the State Workforce Development Board has approved Georgia's High Demand Career List. This initiative aims to align education, training, and workforce development with employer needs throughout the state. The list is part of the Governor’s Top State for Talent initiative, which seeks to maintain Georgia's status as a prime location for business.
Governor Kemp stated, "As the number one state to do business for over a decade, maintaining our competitive edge remains a top goal for my administration and our partners in the legislature." He added that the new tool promotes aligning education and training programs with job creators' needs to bring more opportunities across Georgia.
The High Demand Career List identifies high-demand, high-wage, and high-skill careers to guide educational pathways toward economic success. It serves as a resource for stakeholders like students and parents by providing insights into critical career choices. The list aims to guide improvements in education and job training programs while highlighting essential careers statewide.
Stuart Countess, CEO of Kia Georgia and Chair of the State Workforce Development Board, remarked on this development: “The approval of the High Demand Career List marks a significant step in addressing Georgia’s workforce needs.” He emphasized that identifying crucial careers will help align education with employer demands, closing skill gaps and offering rewarding career paths.
The list targets jobs integral to Georgia's economy that are expected to grow significantly. These positions often require specialized training such as college credentials or apprenticeships. By utilizing this list, Georgia intends to connect educational programs with industry needs, increase skilled workers' numbers, ensure training meets standards, and raise awareness about career opportunities statewide.
