State Representative Matt Barton has been appointed as Secretary of the House Appropriations Committee by the Georgia House of Representatives' Committee on Assignments. In addition to this role, he will serve on the Health Committee and as an Ex-Officio member of the Ways and Means Committee.

Rep. Barton expressed his gratitude for these appointments, stating, "I am deeply grateful to Speaker Burns and the Committee on Assignments for entrusting me with these important roles." He emphasized his commitment to working for the benefit of all Georgians through these positions. "Serving as Secretary of the Appropriations Committee and being a part of other key committees gives me the opportunity to continue working for the benefit of all Georgians. I am particularly excited to contribute to our state’s health and economic initiatives in these capacities."

In addition to his new responsibilities, Rep. Barton remains Vice Chair of both the Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications and Motor Vehicles committees. These roles involve overseeing legislation related to Georgia's energy, telecommunications industries, and motor vehicle regulations.

The Health Committee is tasked with addressing policies that affect the health and well-being of Georgians. The Appropriations Committee allocates state funding across various programs and services, while Rep. Barton's Ex-Officio position on the Ways and Means Committee allows him input on taxation and state revenue matters.

Rep. Barton has represented House District 5 since 2019, which includes parts of Floyd and Gordon counties. His legislative focus remains on meeting constituent needs and improving quality of life throughout Georgia.
