The Georgia House of Representatives has announced the committee assignments for State Representative Carter Barrett (R-Cumming) for the 2025-2026 legislative term. The announcement was made by the Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington). Rep. Barrett has been appointed as Vice Chairman of the House Higher Education Committee.

In addition to his role as Vice Chairman, Rep. Barrett will serve as a member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education. He has also been appointed Secretary of both the Banks & Banking Committee and the Code Revision Committee.

Rep. Barrett expressed his gratitude for these appointments, stating, “I am deeply honored to be appointed Vice Chairman of the Higher Education Committee by Speaker Jon Burns.” He emphasized the significance of this position for his district, which includes both the University of North Georgia and Lanier Technical College. "As I begin my third year serving in the Georgia House, these new appointments represent a significant milestone in my legislative career," he added.

The Higher Education Committee is tasked with overseeing legislation that affects Georgia's higher education systems, including universities and colleges within the state. The Appropriations Committee focuses on drafting Georgia’s fiscal year budgets and considers legislation impacting state revenue or expenditures. The Banks & Banking Committee oversees financial institutions and related laws, while the Code Revision Committee works on updating and correcting Georgia’s statutes.
