The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced potential traffic impacts due to construction activities for the 16@95 Improvement Projects. The projects involve widening I-16 and reconstructing the I-16/I-95 Interchange. Lane closures are planned for various locations, impacting both daytime and nighttime traffic.
Daytime lane closures will occur from Monday, February 24, through Saturday, March 1, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., affecting I-16 westbound from the I-16/I-516 Interchange to the I-16/I-95 Interchange. Similar closures will take place on I-16 eastbound during the same dates but between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Nighttime lane closures are scheduled from February 24 through March 1, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., on sections of I-16 westbound and eastbound near major interchanges. Additionally, double-lane closures on I-95 northbound and southbound at the I-16 overpass will be in effect nightly from February 24 through March 1, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
A continuous closure is set for Friday, February 28, at 8 p.m., through Monday, March 3, at 5 a.m., affecting the ramp from I-16 eastbound to I-516 eastbound (Exit164A). Motorists should use designated detours via West Gwinnett Street to access their destinations.
Long-term roadwork continues on Tremont Road under I-16 until May31,2025.Motorists are advised to follow detour routes via Telfair Road and West Gwinnett Street for access across Tremont Road.
Projected closures extend into early March with similar patterns of intermittent lane restrictions scheduled from March3toMarch15.These include daytime closures along key stretches ofI -165and nighttime double-lane restrictions around significant interchanges.
Advance notice indicates several detours will be coordinated to prevent conflicts across different ramps within major interchanges throughout this period. Detour information can be found highlighted in red text within official communications.
