The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced planned lane closures on Interstate 16 and the I-16/I-95 Interchange, as part of the ongoing 16@95 Improvement Projects. The initiative aims to widen Interstate 16 and reconstruct the interchange at I-16/I-95.

Weather permitting, construction partners will implement daytime closures from March 3 to March 8. During this period, intermittent right- and left-lane closures will occur on I-16 westbound from the I-16/I-516 Interchange (MP 164) to the I-16/I-95 Interchange (MP 157), and on I-16 eastbound in the reverse direction. Additionally, lane closures will affect both directions of I-516 near the I-16 Interchange.

Nighttime work is also scheduled for March 3 through March 8. This includes similar lane closures on I-16 and double-lane closures on sections of I-95 at the I-16 overpass.

A continuous closure is set from February 28 at 8 p.m. through March 3 at 5 a.m., affecting the ramp from I-16 eastbound to I-516 eastbound. An alternative route is provided via West Gwinnett Street.

A long-term closure remains in effect until May 31, 2025, for Tremont Road under I-16. Detours are outlined for motorists traveling north or south of this area.

Work restrictions will be enforced during St. Patrick’s Day holiday from March 14 to March 18, preventing any roadwork that could interfere with traffic flow.

Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, reduce speed in work zones, and remain alert for workers. For real-time updates on work status and traffic conditions, individuals can call Georgia's travel information line or access online resources provided by Georgia DOT.

"Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs and maintains Georgia’s state and federal highways," said a spokesperson for Georgia DOT. "We’re involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike and pedestrian programs."

Georgia DOT continues its commitment to delivering a transportation system focused on innovation, safety, sustainability, and mobility with nearly 4,000 employees working toward boosting Georgia’s competitiveness through leadership in transportation.
