State Representative Al Williams of Macon has been appointed to the Rules Subcommittee on Lawsuit Reform by Speaker Jon Burns from Newington. Rep. Williams also expressed his approval for the advancement of House Bill 576, a piece of legislation he sponsored, which has passed out of the House Committee on Agriculture and Consumer Affairs. This bill aims to introduce a delay in money transactions, providing users with an opportunity to cancel if necessary.
"I look forward to the second meeting of the Rules Subcommittee for Senate Bill 68," said Rep. Williams. "I also certainly believe House Bill 576 will be a great benefit to all Georgians who have lost millions of dollars at this point."
The newly formed House Rules Subcommittee on Lawsuit Reform was established by Speaker Burns. It is responsible for reviewing proposed legislation that suggests changes to Georgia’s legal framework under Senate Bills 68 and 69.
House Bill 576 proposes amendments to the Fair Business Practices Act of 1975. It mandates that money transmitters operating peer-to-peer payment platforms must delay transactions for at least 15 minutes, allowing users time to cancel them if they suspect fraud or make an error during the transaction process.
