The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced upcoming lane closures as part of the 16@95 Improvement Projects. These projects aim to widen Interstate 16 and reconstruct the I-16/I-95 Interchange. Weather permitting, the closures will facilitate necessary widening activities for I-16 and bridge work at the I-16/I-516 Interchange.

Daytime lane closures are scheduled from Tuesday, March 18, through Saturday, March 22. Closures will occur intermittently on I-16 westbound from the I-16/I-516 Interchange to the I-16/I-95 Interchange between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., and on I-16 eastbound from the I-16/I-95 Interchange to the I-16/I-516 Interchange between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Additionally, intermittent closures will take place on I-516 in both directions at the I-16 Interchange.

Nighttime closures are also planned for the same dates, with intermittent lane closures on I-16 westbound and eastbound from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., as well as on I-516 in both directions at the same interchange locations. Double-lane closures are expected on I-95 northbound and southbound at the I-16 overpass from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

A long-term closure is in effect until May 31, 2025, affecting Tremont Road under I-16. Motorists traveling in this area should follow designated detour routes.

During St. Patrick’s Day holiday work restrictions, no road closures or traffic-interfering work will occur from noon on Friday, March 14, to Tuesday, March 18, at 6 a.m.

Motorists are advised that exact times may change due to weather conditions and should expect delays within work zones. They are encouraged to exercise caution by reducing speed and staying alert for workers. For real-time updates on traffic conditions and work status, motorists can call 511 or visit Georgia's travel information website.
