The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) has expressed its approval following the passage of Senate Bill 68, a piece of legislation aimed at reducing lawsuit abuse and enhancing protections for small businesses in Georgia. The bill was passed by the House with bipartisan support on Thursday and subsequently received agreement from the Senate.
Hunter Loggins, NFIB State Director, issued a statement highlighting the significance of this legislative development for small businesses in Georgia. He stated, "This is a big victory for Georgia’s small businesses. Individuals have a right to seek compensation if they’ve been harmed, but many personal injury attorneys have gamed the system. Instead of going after the parties responsible, they’ve targeted whoever appears to have the deepest pockets. Many times, that’s a small business."
Loggins further emphasized how lawsuit abuse has negatively impacted small businesses by increasing insurance costs and hindering their ability to grow and create jobs. He expressed gratitude towards both chambers of the Georgia legislature for passing SB 68 and conveyed anticipation for Governor Kemp's signature to enact it into law.
