The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced intermittent lane and ramp closures to facilitate the 16@95 Improvement Projects, which aim to widen I-16 and reconstruct the I-16/I-95 Interchange. These changes are set to take effect from April 7 through April 26, weather permitting. The department stresses the importance of detour awareness for motorists through real-time traffic alerts available on Georgia NaviGAtor at www.511ga.org.

The planned closures will occur both during the day and at night at various locations. Daytime closures are scheduled between April 7 and April 26 at different times, affecting I-16 westbound and eastbound lanes as well as I-516 near the I-16 Interchange. Similarly, nighttime closures are slated for the same period, impacting I-16 and I-95 lanes.

"Advance notice and detours will be scheduled so they will not conflict with one another. Closures and detours will be coordinated to ensure proper maintenance of traffic," according to Georgia DOT. The ongoing project will include long-term closure points as well, with Tremont Road under I-16 closed from June 26, 2022, until May 31, 2025.

Those traveling through these areas are advised to anticipate detours and changing traffic patterns. Assistance or further inquiries can be directed to 1695improvements@dot.ga.gov.
