The United States government is preparing for a possible 400,000 migrants that could cross the southern border this October following a lift in COVID restrictions.

The COVID restriction, Title 42, was implemented by the Trump administration has been responsible for keeping most asylum seekers out of the United States since it was put into place. But a new ruling on Sept.16 from U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan has ruled that ICE will no longer have the power to block asylum seekers at the U.S. Mexico border using the restriction, according to Newsweek.

‘’The US Government is preparing for an absurd 400,000 illegal immigrants to potentially cross the border this month. That would easily make up the 2nd largest city in the state of Georgia. To protect this country, the border must be closed ASAP!’’ said Congressional candidate Jake Evans in a tweet on Wednesday.

The possible influx of migrants follows an incident in September where more than 25,000 Haitian migrants arrived in Del Rio, Texas, to cross into the United States and were met with fierce opposition from border patrol in addition to public criticism, according to NBC.

Should Title 42 be lifted, migrant families would be allowed to stay in the country while they wait to make asylum claims in U.S. courts, according to NBC.
