A police officer in Alamo, Georgia was shot and killed on Saturday during his first shift with the department.
Dylan Harrison, 26, had just started working part time with the Alamo Police when he was gunned down around 1 a.m. during his first shift right outside the Alamo Police Department in Wheeler County, according to NBC News.
"Early this morning, one of our law-enforcement officials in Middle Georgia was killed in the line of duty. Our thoughts and prayers are with this officer’s family, friends and colleagues at the Alamo Police Department. May God continue to be with all who protect and serve," said Governor Brian Kemp in a tweet on Saturday.
A $17,500 reward is being offered for any information leading to the capture of Damien Anthony Ferguson, 43, identified by Alamo Police as the lead suspect in the shooting.
Despite being the first Alamo officer killed in the line of duty, Harrison is among at least five Georgia officers who have been killed in the line of duty this year, according to NBC News.
“Our sincerest thoughts, prayers and condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of Officer Dylan Harrison, who was killed in the line of duty last night in Alamo,” Telfair County Sheriff Sim Davidson said on News4Jax.
Harrison is survived by his wife and their 6-month-old baby, News4Jax said.
