Bleckley County Sheriff Kristopher Coody is the subject of an arrest warrant for alleged sexually battery that occurred in Cobb County.
Cobb County authorities accuse Coody of allegedly placing his hand on a woman's breast without her consent at the Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel on Jan. 18, Fox 5 Atlanta reported. The unidentified victim, a prominent Atlanta judge, reported the incident to police, and after speaking with witnesses, investigators executed the warrant.
"This remains an active sexual battery investigation, and we will not be offering any additional statements or providing any on-camera interviews," Cobb County police said in a statement.
Cobb County's online jail records show no indication that Coody has been apprehended, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.
Coody's own agency, the Bleckley County Sheriff's Office, said it is aware of the allegations facing the sheriff, who is allegedly out of state on a faith-based mission trip, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.
"Sheriff Coody has been a law enforcement officer for more than two decades and has tremendous respect for our court system," the sheriff's office said in a statement. "He is taking these allegations seriously and will meet with the appropriate authorities as soon as he returns."
The sheriff's department further said that it's dedicated to "complete transparency" but won't provide further statements regarding the investigation of Coody, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.
"Sheriff Coody will provide more information at a later date as he is able to do so," the sheriff's office said. "We appreciate your questions and your concern and understand your requests for information. Thank you for your support and patience."
The Cobb County Police Department's Crimes Against Persons Unit is in charge of the investigation, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.
