Richard Seymour, a former Georgia Bulldog and New England Patriots defensive lineman, was recently elected for the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Feb 10, according to the UGA's official website.

Seymour's entry into the Pro Football Hall of Fame will take place on Aug. 6, making him the fifth UGA player to be inducted, following Charley Trippi, Fran Tarkenton, Terrell Davis, and Champ Bailey.

"Richard was the consummate professional and leader, always accepting the roles he was assigned, putting team goals ahead of personal ones and in turn raising the game of everyone around him," Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft told the school website, "As great as he was as a player, he is a Hall of Fame-caliber person as well."

The six-foot, 300-pounder from Gadsden, South Carolina, was an All-American and a two-time All-SEC selection during his tenure at Georgia.

Additionally, he finished his college career with 233 tackles, 26 for loss, and ten sacks.

Following his time at Georgia, Seymour went on to play for New England from 2001 to 2008 and then for Oakland from 2009 to 2012.

During his time in the NFL, he won three Super Bowls with the Patriots and participated in a fourth, finishing his career as a seven-time Pro Bowler and five-time All-Pro pick with 496 tackles and 57.5 sacks.

He was later nominated to the Patriots' 50th Anniversary Team, the New England All-Decade Team, the Patriots' Hall of Fame and the NFL's 2000s All-Decade Team.

Seymour was also inducted into the Georgia-Florida Game Hall of Fame in 2015, the South Carolina State Hall of Fame in 2018, and was named one of the SEC Football's "Legends of the Game" in 2018.

Additionally, he founded the Richard Seymour Family Endowed Scholarship and donated to the West End Zone project at Sanford Stadium.
