City of Sandy Springs recently issued the following announcement.
The City of Sandy Springs is proactively working to enhance roadway safety along State Route 9, more commonly referred to as Roswell Road, which is one of the most traveled roads in Sandy Springs.
One area identified is the intersection of Roswell Road and Grogans Ferry Road and the surrounding corridor. Over a three-year period from 2014-2016, there were 67 accidents within the project corridor, including 27 accidents at this intersection. Roadway safety improvements began in March 2021 and significant milestones have been achieved since construction started.
Ongoing improvements include:
- A new multi-use path on Grogans Ferry to provide residents a safe path of travel from the intersection back to the residential areas.
- The eastbound traffic lanes on Grogans Ferry have been paved and the stormwater drainage system installation is nearing completion.
- On both sides of Roswell Road, new 6-foot-wide sidewalks have been constructed and the curb level has been raised. Travel lanes are also being widened from 10.5 to 11 feet to adhere to modern safety standards.
In addition to these improvements, Sandy Springs has many ongoing plans, studies and projects focused on safety improvements along the Roswell Road corridor spanning from Dunwoody Place to the City’s southern border. The information gathered from the Roswell Road Access Management Study will be used to finalize a plan that will include a phased list of projects, cost, and other implementation guidance to help the City identify short-term and long-term solutions along Roswell Road.
