Georgia now ranks as one of 10 states with the greatest number of monkeypox cases in the country at 11, according to a recent report by FOX 5 Atlanta.
With Monkeypox cases across the state now in double figures, the Georgia Department of Public Health reports that most new patients are males residing in the metro Atlanta area. All of them have been advised to isolate and are being monitored by the Georgia DPH, Fox 5 reported.
Earlier this month, the United States identified 306 cases of the disease in 27 states and the District of Columbia with no deaths, FOX 5 reported. Even as government officials insist the risk to the American public is low, the two-dose vaccine Jynneos has been approved and is now available to the public.
Monkeypox is endemic in parts of Africa where people are infected through bites from rodents or small animals, according to Fox 5. Most monkeypox patients report fever, body aches, chills, and fatigue. Medical officials claim those with more serious symptoms may also develop a rash and lesions on the face and hands that can spread to other parts of the body.
