Washington, D.C. – On June 27, U.S. Senators Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) and Jon Ossoff (D-GA) announced $22.2 million in federal funding to upgrade Georgia State University’s transportation system by transitioning their bus fleet from older diesel-powered engines to an all-electric fleet. An electric bus fleet would lower long-term maintenance costs for the university, enabling them to prioritize spending on supporting students. The planned electric fleet would also contribute to cleaner air and quieter streets in downtown Atlanta, enhancing quality of life for those who live and work in and around the campus.

“As a man of faith, I believe we are called to be good stewards of the Earth and its resources. And as a public servant, I believe we can create economic opportunity while preserving our planet, which is why I am proud to secure these funds to invest in Georgia State University’s all-electric bus fleet,” said Senator Reverend Warnock. “This will help improve air quality, noise pollution, and overall quality of life for students and local Atlantans. I will continue working to deliver strong federal investments like this to every corner of our state.”

“We are upgrading Georgia State’s transportation fleet with cutting-edge electric vehicles through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Lawto support the University and reduce air pollution in metro Atlanta,” said Senator Ossoff.

The funds for the Atlanta based university were made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which established a Low or No Emissions grant program, administered by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). Last year, Senator Reverend Warnock pushed the FTA to prioritize funding for Georgia State, and has been a champion for Georgia’s emerging clean energy economy.
