Steve Cortes, the leader of the League of American Workers (LAW), has accused Democrats of resorting to questionable tactics in an attempt to defeat former President Donald Trump in a potential rematch against President Joe Biden in 2024. According to Cortes, these tactics include Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis' controversial hiring decision involving her alleged romantic partner.

"The Dems and their crony media allies know they cannot run on Biden's miserable record, especially on the economy and the border," said Cortes. "So, they use shameful tactics against Trump, deployed by corrupt, dirty officials like Fani Willis, who uses taxpayer money to lavishly pay her secret lover to prosecute Trump."

A report from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) provides context for Cortes' allegations. The AJC reported that Willis hired Nathan Wade, a lawyer with no experience prosecuting Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) cases. Despite this lack of experience, Wade was paid at a higher rate than other prosecutors involved in the case - amounting to $654,000 in taxpayer funds so far. The report also highlighted that Wade and Willis have reportedly taken expensive vacations together, funded by Wade using Fulton County funds received by his law firm.

In response to criticisms about her conduct, Willis gave a speech at an Atlanta church where she referred to Wade as a "great friend" and attributed the criticism she faced to racial bias. She stated that all three special counsellors were compensated at "the same hourly rate."

However, contrary to Willis' statement, another special counsellor on her team appears to be receiving less compensation than Wade despite seeming more qualified for the case. This is according to a report from the Daily Caller News Foundation which reveals that John Floyd - described as "Georgia's top racketeering expert" - has been paid only $200 per hour compared to Wade's $250 per hour.

The judge presiding over the Trump case has ordered Willis to respond to these allegations. According to Politico, Willis is required to file a written response by February 2, with a hearing on the allegations scheduled for February 15.
