A recent survey released by the League of American Workers (LAW), a workers’ advocacy group, revealed that 72 percent of voters in Georgia believe corporations should not make hiring and promotion decisions based on race or sexual identity. This sentiment was shared by 73 percent of independents and a majority of Democrats.

According to LAW chairman Steve Cortes, the poll further discovered that identity-based hiring and promotions were opposed by 60% of black citizens and 67% of Hispanics in Georgia. Even among voters who identified themselves as liberal, a majority of 53 percent expressed opposition to the practice. The survey was conducted on behalf of LAW by North Star Opinion Research.

In January 2021, Bradley Gayton, Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Coca Cola, issued a letter to external legal firms representing the company. As reported by Bloomberg Law, Gayton stated that these firms were expected to assign 30% of their Coca-Cola related work to minority attorneys or face a reduction in payment by the same percentage. He reportedly said he "hopes" to raise this requirement to 50% within two years.

Times Now World reports that Atlanta-based Delta Airlines has also been subject to recent controversy following an alleged memo from its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) department. The document instructed employees to "Capitalize 'Black' and 'Brown' in Delta communications," while maintaining 'white' in lowercase. Delta Airlines has not confirmed the authenticity or commented on the content of this document.

Despite this controversy, Delta CEO Ed Bastian has publicly committed to DEI initiatives. On Delta's website, Bastian wrote: "Thoughtful action combined with a focus on championing diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace and within our personal lives will play a healing role to help us keep climbing."

Established in 2022, LAW conducts research and develops proposals for public policies impacting American workers and the economy.
