Governor Brian P. Kemp signed the Fiscal Year 2025 Budget (HB 916) in a ceremony at the Georgia State Capitol, emphasizing investments in public safety, education, healthcare, and workforce development. The budget, a collaborative effort of Senate and House Appropriations Chairmen Blake Tillery and Matt Hatchett, along with members of the legislative chambers, focuses on crucial areas while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

Kemp highlighted the importance of the budget in addressing economic prosperity, education quality, healthcare access, and community safety. He mentioned the significance of competitive salaries for essential positions like law enforcement officers, teachers, and public sector employees. The budget includes a 4% cost-of-living adjustment for state workers and additional salary enhancements for roles with high demand, such as public safety officers.

The Governor noted the allocation of funds for workforce housing, literacy initiatives, and substantial investments in K-12 education, including significant pay raises for educators. The budget also prioritizes school safety with a grant program and supports law enforcement with salary enhancements and resources. Additionally, investments in the Department of Corrections aim to improve security and staffing levels.

To combat criminal activities, the budget allocates funds for a gang task force, gang prosecution units, and efforts to tackle organized retail crime and cyber offenses. In the healthcare sector, the budget includes provisions for health insurance affordability, workforce development, and maternal health programs. Mental health initiatives also received substantial funding, building on previous efforts to address this critical issue.

Kemp emphasized the responsible allocation of funds, returning over $5 billion to Georgia taxpayers while reducing the state income tax. The budget reflects a commitment to financial prudence and impactful investments, ensuring resources are directed where they can make the most significant difference for Georgia residents.
