ATLANTA – Speaker of the House Jon Burns (R-Newington) announced the members of the House Study Committee on Assessing the Semester and Quarter Systems at USG and TCSG Institutions. The committee was created by legislation adopted during the 2024 session of the Georgia General Assembly.
The House Study Committee on Assessing the Semester and Quarter Systems at USG and TCSG Institutions includes:
- Rep. Shaw Blackmon – Chair (R-Bonaire)
- Rep. Ginny Ehrhart (R-Marietta)
- Rep. Mike Cheokas (R-Americus)
- Rep. Chuck Martin (R-Alpharetta)
- Rep. Stacey Evans (D-Atlanta)
Dr. Ashwani Monga will serve as the designee for the University System of Georgia, and Dr. Ray Perren will serve as the designee for the Technical College System of Georgia.
Created by House Resolution 1384, the committee will examine respective advantages and disadvantages of semesters and quarters for institutions within both systems, evaluating whether anticipated benefits of converting to a semester system have been realized. The study committee will have an opportunity to submit their findings into proposed legislation during the 2025 legislative session.
