State Representative Edna Jackson (D-Savannah) has been appointed by Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve on the House Study Committee on Disaster Mitigation and Resilience.

“The Savannah community has experienced our fair share of devastation at the hands of natural disasters throughout our state’s history,” said Rep. Jackson. “I am grateful to Speaker Burns for recognizing the importance of studying our disaster mitigation tactics and prevention methods, as well as selecting me to serve in this capacity. With Savannah being on the seacoast, it is important that we are a part of discussions involving flooding causes and effects. I am eager to work alongside my legislative colleagues to help better our responses to disasters so that we may reduce harm to our beautiful city and state and to those who call it home.”

Created by House Resolution 1432, the House Study Committee on Disaster Mitigation and Resilience will examine ways to develop a comprehensive resilience plan to accommodate and mitigate current and future disaster events with the goal of facilitating strong economic development, promoting tourism, and assisting communities and businesses struggling with repeated disaster impacts.

Speaker Burns also appointed State Representatives Clint Crowe (R-Jackson), Lynn Smith (R-Newnan), and J Collins (R-Villa Rica) to this study committee.
