State Representative Al Williams (D-Midway) has been appointed by Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve on the House Study Committee on Navigable Streams and Related Matters.

“Having previously served on the House Study Committee on Fishing Access to Freshwater Resources last year, I understand that this is a serious matter, and it is very important to many Georgians,” said Rep. Williams. “I look forward to studying this issue further this year.”

The committee was established following the adoption of House Resolution 1554 during the 2024 legislative session. It will examine aspects of navigable streams in Georgia, including issues surrounding their ownership, private and public rights of use, and other related matters. The committee may make recommendations for proposed legislation ahead of the 2025 legislative session.

Speaker Burns also appointed State Representatives Lynn Smith (R-Newnan), Stan Gunter (R-Blairsville), John Corbett (R-Lake Park), Johnny Chastain (R-Blue Ridge), and James Burchett (R-Waycross) as members of the study committee. Mr. Jud Turner will serve as the non-legislative member.
