Georgia's Attorney General Chris Carr has criticized the Biden administration's regulation for temporary foreign farm workers, describing it as imposing "unlawful demands on American agricultural employers." Carr made his statement in a June 14 post on X.

"We filed suit over the Biden administration's pro-union rule for temporary foreign farm workers," said General Chris Carr. "The President can't use his Labor Dept. to impose unreasonable & unlawful demands on America's agricultural employers. We'll always fight for GA's farmers."

According to a press release by the Office of the Attorney General, Carr has taken legal action against the Biden administration's Department of Labor (DOL) regarding a new rule. This rule requires agricultural employers to permit temporary foreign-migrant workers to unionize and negotiate collectively. Carr and other attorneys general argue that this rule breaches the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), asserting that the DOL is attempting to achieve through regulatory means what Congress has determined it cannot legislate.

"President Biden is using his Department of Labor to burden American farmers, and we’re fighting back," said Carr. "At a time when every industry is struggling with workforce and rising costs, these unreasonable and unlawful demands will devastate agricultural employers throughout our state. We will continue to stand with Georgia’s hardworking farmers by putting a stop to the absurd regulations that are coming out of D.C."

Carr, appointed as Georgia's attorney general by then-Governor Nathan Deal in 2016, was re-elected in November 2022. Since taking office, he has focused on addressing issues such as human trafficking, gang activity, and opioid misuse. His initiatives include establishing the state's first Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit and Gang Prosecution Unit. Additionally, Carr previously served as commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, during which Georgia was recognized as the top state for business with substantial investment and job creation.
