Georgia's Attorney General Chris Carr has called for immediate action to address illegal immigration, emphasizing its impact on public safety and the economy. Carr made his statement in a December 27 post on X.

"The time to confront illegal immigration is now," said General Chris Carr.

In an op-ed published in the Washington Examiner, Carr discusses the serious consequences of illegal immigration. He highlights the growing presence of violent criminal organizations, such as Tren de Aragua and MS-13, in Georgia and other states. These gangs engage in activities like drug trafficking and human trafficking, which Carr says are endangering local communities. "Georgia will not tolerate criminal organizations operating within its borders," he said, adding that the state is committed to taking legal action to dismantle these groups.

Carr addressed the growing drug crisis linked to illegal immigration, particularly the influx of fentanyl, which has become a major contributor to drug overdoses in the U.S. His office has seized significant amounts of fentanyl and is taking legal action to hold traffickers accountable.

Carr calls for stronger border enforcement and federal policies that prioritize public safety, including deporting individuals who enter the country illegally, especially those with criminal records. He said his intention to work with President-elect Donald Trump and Congress to secure the nation's borders and address challenges exacerbated by current federal policies.

Chris Carr was appointed as Georgia's attorney general by then-Governor Nathan Deal in 2016 and was re-elected in November 2022. Since taking office, Carr has focused on addressing issues such as human trafficking, gang activity, and opioid misuse. According to the Office of the Attorney General, he established the state's first Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit and Gang Prosecution Unit.
