State Representative Doreen Carter of Lithonia is set to host the 10th annual "Go Red for Women" luncheon on February 7, 2025. The event will take place from noon to 2 p.m. in room 230 at the Georgia State Capitol.
"Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States, and raising awareness is critical to saving lives," stated Rep. Carter. She emphasized that the luncheon aims to empower women with knowledge about heart health and encourages collective action against heart disease.
The "Go Red for Women" initiative forms part of a national campaign focusing on heart disease prevention and advocacy. Attendees are encouraged to wear red as a sign of support.
Speakers at this year's event include Dr. Jayne Morgan from Piedmont, Dr. Antoinette "Toni" G. Alvarado from Harmonize Your Life, and Dr. Shannon Walker from Emory, who will discuss heart health and preventive measures.
"Every woman should know her risks and take proactive steps to protect her heart," said Dr. Jayne Morgan, highlighting the importance of bridging awareness with action through such events.
Participants will have access to free blood pressure testing and giveaways during the event. Admission is free, but space is limited, so early arrival is recommended. For further details, contact Roland Carter II at roland.carter86@gmail.com.
