Brad Thomas appointed chairman of special resource management committee

The Georgia House of Representatives' Committee on Assignments has appointed State Representative Brad Thomas as Chairman of the newly created Special Committee on Resource Management. The announcement was made by House Speaker Jon Burns, who leads the committee.

Representative Thomas, who represents Holly Springs, expressed gratitude for the appointment. "I thank Speaker Burns for his confidence in me to chair the special committee focused on energy initiatives for Georgia," said Rep. Thomas. He emphasized the importance of energy as a key component of Georgia's economy and stated his readiness to develop a comprehensive energy policy to maintain Georgia's business leadership nationwide.

In addition to this new role, Rep. Thomas will serve as Vice Chairman of both the Governmental Affairs Committee and the Technology and Infrastructure Innovation Committee. He was also reappointed as Secretary of the Defense & Veterans Affairs Committee and remains a member of several other committees including Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications; Intragovernmental Coordination; Retirement; and Transportation.

The Special Committee on Resource Management is tasked with addressing increasing energy demands due to data centers moving into Georgia. Meanwhile, the Governmental Affairs Committee focuses on state election law and government operations at various levels. The Technology and Infrastructure Innovation Committee addresses emerging technologies affecting Georgia's economy.

Rep. Thomas expressed enthusiasm about his roles: "I’m also excited to continue serving as vice chair of the Technology and Infrastructure Innovation Committee... I am also eager to serve as the vice chair of Governmental Affairs."

The Defense & Veterans Affairs Committee deals with legislation related to military personnel in Georgia, while the Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications Committee handles matters concerning energy industries and telecommunications regulations.

Other committees such as Intragovernmental Coordination manage local legislation affecting political subdivisions like cities or counties, while the Retirement Committee oversees retirement systems for teachers and state employees.
