The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced lane closures on Interstate 16 as part of the ongoing 16@95 Improvement Projects. These projects aim to widen Interstate 16 and reconstruct the I-16/I-95 Interchange. The closures are planned to facilitate various construction activities including bridge work at the I-16/I-516 Interchange.
Weather permitting, the closures for the week of March 31 through April 5 are scheduled as follows:
During daytime hours, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, there will be intermittent lane closures on I-16 and I-516 in both directions. At night, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., and on another schedule from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., similar closures will be in effect on these routes as well as on I-95 overpasses.
Advance notice has been provided for nightly work on the I-16 eastbound to I-516 westbound ramp, demanding alternative detours for affected motorists. Long-term closures are also in place at Tremont Road under I-16, expected to last through May 31, 2025.
Motorists are advised to stay informed of the latest traffic conditions and construction updates through Georgia DOT's information channels. As per the department: "Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers."
The Georgia DOT constructs and maintains state and federal highways, and is involved with various transportation modalities across Georgia. They emphasize innovation and safety as part of their commitment to enhancing the state's transportation infrastructure.
