Bill proposes transparency for cell cultured and plant-based meats

State Representative Jordan Ridley from Woodstock has introduced House Bill 163 in the Georgia legislature. The bill aims to mandate food service establishments to disclose if their products contain cell cultured meat or plant-based alternatives.

Representative Ridley expressed concerns about the growing prevalence of artificial meat, stating, "The increased use of artificial meat is alarming in today’s day and age." He emphasized the importance of transparency for consumers: "This bill, at the very least, would provide transparency on what is being used in our food when we go out to eat. Folks shouldn’t have to question what type of meat or poultry product they are paying to eat."

House Bill 163 stipulates that any food establishment serving products with cell cultured or plant-based meat must label or advertise them accordingly. Representative Ridley is optimistic about gaining support from his colleagues in the House, asserting that there is a need for disclosure and honesty regarding food consumption.
