State Representative Doreen Carter recently recognized the Bass Reeves Gun Club (BRGC) on the House Floor of the State Capitol in honor of its 10th anniversary. Rep. Carter emphasized the importance of firearm ownership being coupled with safety, education, and sensible policies.
"My support for the Bass Reeves Gun Club stems from a belief that firearm ownership should come with a commitment to safety, education and sensible policies," said Rep. Carter. "Rather than focusing solely on the right to own a gun, we need to prioritize responsible training, secure storage and policies that keep our communities safe. BRGC exemplifies this by not only educating gun owners but also fostering a culture of accountability and awareness."
The Bass Reeves Gun Club is a 501(c)(3) organization based in the Atlanta Metro area. It promotes safe and responsible use of firearms for home protection, competitive shooting, and outdoor recreational activities. As a pro-Second Amendment organization, BRGC focuses on preserving community safety through armed protection and education while welcoming individuals from all religious, social, and racial backgrounds.
Over the past seven years, BRGC has organized Ladies Day Out events that have trained over 1,500 women in firearm safety and marksmanship fundamentals. The club aims to create a supportive environment for women interested in exploring firearm ownership and training.
Additionally, BRGC offers quarterly no-cost training sessions for young people aged 8-18 through its Youth Firearms Education Program. Nearly 100 youth and guardians have been trained through this initiative. The club has also distributed more than 1,000 gunlocks in partnership with Project Child Safe. Another significant initiative is the Protect What Protects You campaign, a collaboration between the National African American Gun Association (NAAGA) and the Firearms Security Alliance aimed at educating gun owners on firearm security to prevent theft-related crimes.
In 2025, BRGC will award $2,000 through its Aiming for College Excellence Scholarship to eligible college freshmen and rising sophomores. This adds to the $16,000 in scholarships previously distributed to community youth.
Rep. Carter had previously introduced a resolution in 2020 acknowledging NAAGA's and BRGC’s contributions to community safety and education.
