The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced temporary lane closures on state routes and interstates as part of the I-285/I-20 West Interchange project. These closures are scheduled to occur from Monday, March 17, through Friday, March 21, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., weather permitting.
The project aims to reconstruct and widen several ramps at the interchange and add connecting lanes along I-20 west and I-285 north. Specific locations affected by the nighttime closures include:
- I-20 westbound from Linkwood Road overpass (mile marker 51.4) to Factory Shoals Road overpass (mile marker 45.4).
- I-20 eastbound from Factory Shoals Road overpass (mile marker 45.4) to Linkwood Road overpass (mile marker 51.4).
Additional closures will occur from Tuesday, March 18, through Friday, March 21, at:
- I-285 southbound at US 278/SR 8/Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway (mile marker 11.8) to mile marker 10.
- I-285 northbound at US 278/SR 8/Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway (mile marker 10) to mile marker 11.8.
GDOT advises that "exact time may change due to weather conditions" and notes potential intermittent traffic pacing alongside lane and ramp closures within the work zone.
Motorists should anticipate delays and are urged to exercise caution, reduce speed in work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers. For real-time updates on work status and traffic conditions, GDOT recommends calling 511 or visiting their website at www.511ga.org.
