The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced lane closures on Interstate 16 as part of the 16@95 Improvement Projects, which aim to widen I-16 and reconstruct the I-16/I-95 Interchange. Weather permitting, these closures will be carried out by Georgia DOT construction partners to accommodate widening activities on I-16 and bridge work at the I-16/I-516 Interchange.
Daytime closures are scheduled from Monday, April 14, through Friday, April 18. Intermittent right- and left-lane closures will occur on I-16 westbound from the I-16/I-516 Interchange to the I-16/I-95 Interchange, and on I-16 eastbound from the I-16/I-95 Interchange to the I-16/I-516 Interchange. Additional closures will affect I-516 in both westbound and eastbound directions at the I-16 Interchange.
Nighttime closures will also be in effect from April 14 to April 17. These will impact I-16 in both directions and I-516 at the I-16 Interchange. Double-lane closures will occur on I-95 northbound and southbound at the I-16 overpass.
A long-term closure will continue on Tremont Road under I-16 through May 31, 2025. Detours will redirect motorists via Telfair Road, West Gwinnett Street, and I-516.
Road work will pause during the Easter weekend, from noon on Friday, April 18, to 7 p.m. on Monday, April 21, ensuring no closures or traffic restrictions. However, motorists should be aware of possible intermittent traffic pacing and closures in the work area. Georgia DOT advises travelers to expect delays, drive cautiously, and use the Georgia 511 service for timely updates on traffic and road conditions.
"Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs and maintains Georgia’s state and federal highways," a Georgia DOT spokesperson noted, emphasizing the Department's commitment to safety and innovation in transportation.
