The University of Georgia women's tennis team finished the Battle of the Bay with two doubles victories, according to a press release.
After early morning rains postponed play, the Bulldogs hit the court in the afternoon, where freshman Guillermina Grant and senior Meg Kowalski defeated Martinez Vaquero and Mushika of USF 8-0 in the first match, the release said.
Graduate Morgan Coppoc and freshman Mai Nirundorn advanced to the semifinals by defeating Exposito Diaz Delgado and Sorkin 8-6 in the second match.
"We feel that we got exactly what we needed out of this event," Georgia associate head coach Drake Bernstein said in the press release. "It was a solid starting point and we will be coming back to Athens with areas to work on before our trip to Ole Miss next week."
Grant and Kowalski played Pepperdine's Zaar and Redelijik in the doubles semifinals and won in a tiebreaker 8-7 (7-5), while Coppoc and Nirundorn faced Pepperdine's Broadus and Iamachkine and lost 8-2, the release said.
The Bulldogs competed in the Ole Miss Fall Tournament in Oxford, Mississippi, Sept. 24-26, challenging Alabama, Kansas State and Ole Miss. According to a press release, they racked up 26 wins over the weekend — 14 singles and 12 doubles.
