Atlanta's National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has spoken out against former mayor Kasim Reed's run to become the city's mayor once again.

Richard Rose, Atlanta NAACP president, said the city "can and must to better than elect Kasim Reed again," and mentioned that 13 other qualified candidates are also running, according to an Oct. 20 letter.

"Our campaign is being attacked because we sought and received the support of the women and men of the Atlanta Police Department at a time when crime and violence is devastating our city," Reed said in a post on Instagram. "We remain honored to have the support of The International Brotherhood of Police Officers (IBPO) Local 623 and are committed to making Atlanta safe in a manner that is consistent with our values as the cradle of the civil rights movement."

In the letter, Rose said seven unarmed Black people were killed by police officers under Reed's watch, which he claimed would never have happened if Reed followed President Barack Obama's 21st Century Policing Policy.

Rose claimed there was corruption under Reed's watch and pointed to seven indictments and conditions that included the then-chief financial officer Jim Beard, according to the letter.

Rose also highlighted what he called "wasted taxpayer dollars" when Reed apparently tried to take land from both Atlanta University and Morris Brown College.
