Remington Firearms will open its global headquarters in LaGrange, according to a Nov. 8 statement by Gov. Brian Kemp.

The headquarters will include an advanced manufacturing operation along with what is described as a “world-class research and development center,” according to Kemp's release.

Remington will invest $100 million and create 856 jobs over five years in Troup County, the release said. Kemp called it a "big manufacturing win" for the state.

“Georgia's firearms industry is responsible for thousands of jobs and millions of dollars of investment in our communities," Kemp said in the release.

Founded in 1816, Remington Arms produces shotguns and rifles.

Kemp went to Twitter to express his excitement that the company will be coming to Georgia.

“As a proud owner of some of their world-class products, I’m thrilled to welcome America’s oldest firearms manufacturer, @RemingtonArms, to their new home in the Peach State!” Kemp tweeted. His tweet included a video of Kemp welcoming Remington Arms, saying the manufacturing facility will thrive under Georgia’s “pro-business environment.”

CEO Ken D’Arcy said he was very excited to set up shop in Georgia, saying the state not only welcomes businesses, but also welcomes companies in the firearms industry.

“Between the support we’ve received from the state and from Scott Malone and Kelley Bush of the city of LaGrange Economic Development Authority, we cannot wait to expand our company in Georgia,” D’Arcy said in the release.

LaGrange Mayor Jim Thornton was also pleased to bring the firearms manufacturing company into his city, saying that it is part of a growing list of manufacturers in LaGrange.

“The Remington name has long been associated with great products, and I know they will continue that tradition and be very successful here” Thornton said in the release. “I applaud the partnership with Gov. Kemp and the economic development teams at the state and at the city that help attract great companies to our community."

The company will be hiring for a variety of positions including production, operations, engineering, management, human resources, finance and administration.
