A University of Georgia player has been chosen by the San Diego Wave Futbol Club as the 40th overall pick in the 2022 National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) draft.
Defender Kayla Bruster is the second Bulldog in the history of the school chosen in the NWSL draft, the Bulldogs reported in a release.
"Bruster was a critical member of the Georgia backline for five seasons in Athens, earning All-SEC honors in 2019 (First Team) and 2020 (Second Team)," the Bulldogs reported.
Bruster placed third in her team this season, playing for 1,686 minutes and aiding the Bulldogs by blocking all but 26 goals and 83 corner kicks, the Bulldogs reported. Bruster played and started in 79 games, recording 7,033 minutes through her collegiate career.
Wave FC became the NWSL's 12th club and will play in the 2022 season, CBS Sports reported. They officially released their team crest and colors recently.
"We are thrilled to unveil our colors and crest that have been inspired by San Diego's beauty, it's culture and the sheer power of the Pacific Ocean," said Wave FC President Jill Ellis said in a release. "We are confident that our players and fans near and far will enjoy wearing our crest and colors while proudly representing and supporting San Diego Wave Fútbol Club."
